Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
My favorite client is a family who sees us as their trusted family financial advisors. They challenge us with a variety of projects and deals and we assist them in advantageous structuring to give them maximum value. It’s an absolute pleasure to help clients who see us as their advisory partners and appreciate the time and care we put into their financial issues.
Q. What keeps you up at night?
The thought that a client may have missed an opportunity by making a decision without consulting with us first. I feel personally invested in my clients’ success and it’s important to me that we are doing everything we can to create a secure plan for their future.
Q. Describe your work style.
I encourage our staff to ask questions, both to their clients and manager, and to exert as much independence as they want. While I’m always involved with our clients, I want to foster an environment where clients can trust our staff with their questions.
Q. What’s your proudest moment?
Seeing somebody I actively mentored reach her full potential. Often people face challenges in their careers, and being able to guide one of our people to really step up makes me very proud. Today this person is achieving things we always knew she had the talent to do and is on the pathway to partner.
Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life?
My grandfather. He was a self-made man. He didn’t have a family structure that encouraged education and still he graduated from the first dental school class at USC. He bought his own drug store and ran a business. Growing up he would take me on trips to Tahiti and Hawaii and show me the world outside of my backyard. He taught me, through the way he lived his life, that you can do anything and that hard work can overcome circumstances.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
Be a sponge. Observe and soak everything in. Learn from the people who came before you, your managers and the partners. Watch how they treat clients and come to make sound decisions. Be open to new ideas and don’t be afraid of making a mistake. Find joy in your work.
