Q&A

Q. What law or regulation in the accounting industry would you like to see changed?

I would repeal the $10,000 state and local tax (SALT) deduction limitation imposed on individuals by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. It disproportionately impacts taxpayers that live in states with higher real estate and income tax rates.

Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.

I enjoy the opportunity to help the client plan for growth and play an active role in their expansion. My favorite client is very open to planning and sees the value in the work that we do. When they decided to enter a new line of business, we collaborated on the process of buying the new firm. I was able to learn all about how this company would operate and assist with tax planning relative to the purchase of the business as well as the new operations.

Q. Describe your work style.

I believe in balancing people’s workload while staying conscious of our deadlines and meeting client’s expectations. Collaboration is very important to me, so I make sure I’m always approachable, helpful and focused.

Q. What’s your proudest moment?

Getting out of my comfort zone when I travel is something I’m very proud of. When I go to new places where I don’t even speak the language, it’s always an opportunity to learn more about myself. Travel has allowed me to experience different cultures, diverse perspectives and feel more empowered.

Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?

Don’t be afraid to stay curious and continue asking questions. Mentors, partners and managers are there to help you find opportunities so you can become successful in this industry.
