Q&A

Q. What is the toughest decision you have ever made?
Taking the leap from public accounting and going to work in the insurance industry. What drew me to insurance was my passion for the financial reporting aspect of things. I like to dig in and dive deep into complex regulatory matters. It was a difficult decision, but necessary for me in order to better understand the industry and advance my career. It then led me to making a very easy decision in coming back to the firm.
Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
There is a very large insurance client that is constantly engaged in new opportunities and transactions of very different and complex matters on a daily basis. We spend a lot of time together digesting and providing the appropriate responses and consultation to help them understand the impact these transactions have on their operations and their overall ability to maintain their growth and infrastructure over time. I enjoy dissecting complex regulatory matters, and this relationship allows me to use my expertise to deliver solutions.
Q. Describe your work style.
Diligent, thoughtful, deadline-driven and detail-oriented. I am very collaborative with my internal team as we meet on the front-end to understand what the client wants and how each person will deliver on those goals. When clients have new opportunities or interests, I like to get them to the right expert, as that fosters a trusting and value-driven relationship.
Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life
My father. He’s my moral compass, my counsel and my mentor. He raised me to be a trustworthy, respectful and honest human being. Equally, my wife stepped into that role. She does a great job keeping me grounded and focused.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
Don’t get lost in the details. Often, we are trying to find an answer when we don’t know what the question may be. Sometimes you have to sit back, come up for air and think about the bigger picture.
Q. What do you love most about your work?
I have a knack for analytical relationships and understanding data, which allows me to present solutions and information to my clients. Insurance is an evolving and dynamic environment. The availability of information and timing of new regulations have been increasingly difficult for our clients to grasp, implement and administer. We take it upon ourselves to get them the information firsthand, in a timely manner, and with enough preparedness to implement on time and on schedule, so they can avoid that rush that often consumes them and stifles their ability to implement on their own.
