Q. What is it about the accounting or consulting profession that first drew your interest?
The Stanford University job placement office gave me a pamphlet on career ideas. Starting with “A,” I saw accounting and thought it looked like it could be a great profession―and I was right. I liked how accounting has you start with a basic toolkit and then allows you to explore various career options. There is a whole range of possibilities out there once you master the basic skills.
Q. What was it that drew you to Armanino?
I liked Armanino’s values and the quality and integrity of its leadership. Armanino challenges its people to find opportunities they are excited about and stretch for them. It fosters both entrepreneurial spirit and a powerful commitment to client service. All of this is tremendously attractive.
Q. What law or regulation in the accounting industry would you like to see changed?
Periodically I dream about tax simplification. It’s ironic that technology and computerization allow us to be more efficient in handling information, and at the same time, also allowed politicians to pass complicated regulatory legislation that only computers can wade through.
Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
The clients who are passionate about what they do are my favorite. They are people who want to create something or who want to change the world for the better, whether their world is their family, community or something larger. That’s what I enjoy about my clients.
Q. Describe your work style.
Our profession is not about numbers, it’s about people. Understanding people and their core needs helps me better serve our clients and work with my team.
Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life
There isn’t so much one influential person as there are influential qualities that I see in people, such as integrity, courage, commitment to excellence, compassion and kindness. I have found these qualities in historical figures, neighbors, colleagues and friends.
