Q&A

Q. What is it about accounting and consulting that first drew your interest?
My mom encouraged me to take an accounting elective in high school. I ended up taking three years of it and went on to pursue an accounting degree in college. I liked how everything worked out, the checks and balances; you knew if everything was right. What interested me in tax specifically was the legal aspect and the challenge, figuring out the right answer and being able to support it.
Q. Make a prediction; describe your vision of the future of the general business environment for your area of expertise or the industries you serve.
Definitely more AI and automation, especially within the tax preparation process. It will allow us to have even more of an advisory role in tax, figuring out complex issues rather than spending so much time on compliance.
Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
I really like working with innovative companies that are making a positive impact on the world. Working with technology companies, I get to work with a lot of businesses in new, exciting industries. My favorite clients are those that have genuine, nice and collaborative people.
Q. Describe your work style.
I am organized, attentive, positive, hands-on and enjoy helping people and encouraging others.
Q. What’s your proudest moment?
There are two. Professionally it was making partner. I grew up on a farm and was the first in my family to go to college. Graduating, passing the CPA exam and becoming partner has been my biggest achievement. Personally, when I see my kids do something kind for someone else it makes me incredibly proud, because we’ve taught them that how you treat others matters.
Q. What do you love most about your work?
The tax code is complex. I enjoy figuring out big problems and finding resolutions for my clients. Taking something very technical and putting it into everyday language helps clients understand complex issues.
