California Attorney General Updates Charities Forms Effective February 1, 2020

Starting February 1, 2020, the California Attorney General’s Registry of Charitable Trusts will require charities and professional fundraisers to use new and updated forms. The key changes are as follows:

  • Form CT-TR-1, Annual Treasurer’s Report Attorney General of California – This form is new and required to be filed annually by charities with annual revenue less than $50,000.
  • Form CT-1, Initial Registration Form – Changes to this form include nine new supplemental questions not previously asked. These include a list of DBAs of the organization, states in which the organization solicited charitable donations, and questions about common control, etc.
  • Form RRF-1, Annual Registration Renewal – Changes to this form include the removal of certain questions and additions of others, including a requirement to report noncash contributions.
  • In addition, there are changes to professional fundraiser and raffle forms to be completed by charities.

Organizations should be aware of the new forms, and smaller organizations should be aware of a new additional filing not previously required.
