Q&A

Q. What was it that drew you to Armanino?
I saw a growing and successful firm that had won many accolades, including being named one of the "best places to work." Then I met some of the people, and knew it was an exciting place to be. I wanted to be a part of it.
Q. Make a prediction and describe your vision of the future business environment for your area of expertise or the industries you serve.
I see a lot more industries that I work with—and even the audit industry—becoming automated. The role of the auditor/accountant will have to evolve with that. This will allow us to start being able to focus more on the big picture and it will free up a lot of time that is currently spent doing mind-numbing work.
Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
Some of my favorite clients are the ones that are growing very fast. It’s exciting to see the development of their product or service and how it's impacting the marketplace and users in general. The technology underpinning some of them is pretty exciting and they are fun environments to be a part of.
Q. What keeps you up at night?
Thinking through that tough issue that I wasn’t able to solve during the workday. As an example, right now I have a client with some revenue recognition issues, so I've been trying to figure out the best way to help them get on track without making them invest a significant amount of money for this project, knowing that the revenue standards are changing in another year for them.
Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life
My parents and how they conducted themselves are a strong influencer of how I make my decisions in life and how I've set my values. There's a handful of partners who I've worked closely with over my career: Matthew Chavez, Matthew Perreault, Ricardo Martinez. They've been very influential in my career development and building out my expertise.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
Don’t be afraid to fail. It's a marathon, not a sprint, so you have to enjoy the little successes, and when you fall, you have to get back up and keep going. Everyone I've worked closely with encompasses that mindset.
